International Webinar

International Webinar “Towards a sustainable cultural and creative industry in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries”

The ACP-EU Culture Programme, a joint initiative of the European Union and the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, is organizing an international webinar on 9 and 10 June.

This online event will put into perspective the actions of the programme in support of cultural and creative industries in ACP countries and address the issues and challenges of a sector strongly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and currently in full resilience.

With a budget of €40 million for the period 2019-2026, the ACP-EU Culture Programme promotes entrepreneurship and cultural and technological innovation in order to generate new jobs, increase the income of artists and cultural professionals and raise their profile on the international scene.

In 2021, the programme launched a regional mechanism to strengthen the competitiveness of ACP cultural and creative industries. This mechanism complemented a similar mechanism supporting audiovisual co-production funds, introduced in 2020. In this framework, the programme allocates grants to a set of partner organizations, whose main responsibility is to redistribute the funds to cultural and creative operators on a regular basis and to accompany them in the realization of their projects.

Now that the programme has been able to establish a dynamic community of partner organizations ensuring real proximity to the field, it is time to highlight the potential of the actions implemented and to anchor them in current issues impacting on the sustainability of the cultural and creative industries in ACP countries, such as the challenges associated with the acceleration of digitalization, better access to culture for all, the fight against exclusion or the importance of education for youth, and finally, to open up perspectives for the post-Covid cultural and creative industries.

The two-day webinar will bring together cultural operators, artists and creators from ACP and EU countries, the consortia responsible for the programme's regional windows and audiovisual co-production support funds, representatives of the media and academia, as well as diplomatic missions of the EU and ACP states.
